New Firmware Update Available for Nokia X6

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

nokia-x6The Nokia X6 is a pretty sleek handset; while the Sony Ericsson Vivaz shares similar specs (and is actually a little better in terms of specs) the X6 is significantly cheaper. So if 720p HD recording is not a requirement, then the X6 is a great fit for any multimedia nut.

The phone’s 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touch screen provides 360 x 640 pixels of resolution. This display screen is equipped with an accelerometer, a proximity sensor and a scratch resistant glass surface. It provides a decent resolution for viewing videos and websites. The screen response time is also pretty decent. With around 32GB of internal storage (depending on the model), media library space is no longer an issue. The device also sports a USB port for file transfers. The only problem is that the phone lacks a microSD card slot which means that users will have to make do with the internal memory size.

Anyway, the X6’s firmware will be bumped up to version 21.0.004 and it will have quite a lot of updates.

First is the Nokia Ovi software. Various Ovi components will be getting a few minor updates such as Ovi Store (1.5.6), Ovi Music, Ovi Sync (2.0), and Ovi Contacts (1.50.8). The browser will also be improved as well; it will be patched to version 7.2 and is expected to provide users with a better and faster web experience.

The Appshell will also be getting a less buggy version of the kinetic scrolling in the interface, while several new programs will be added in. A 30 day trial version of Shazam has been included in the OS along with a Rihanna service launcher, version 2.2 of Gimlet, and Mail for Exchange will be bumped up to version 2.9.210.

The update is now available for download through the Ovi service or the OTA function on the handset.
