The Nokia X6 is a pretty sleek handset; while the Sony Ericsson Vivaz shares similar specs (and is actually a little better in terms of specs) the X6 is significantly cheaper. So if 720p HD recording is not a requirement, then the X6 is a great fit for any multimedia nut.
The phone’s 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touch screen provides 360 x 640 pixels of resolution. This display screen is equipped with an accelerometer, a proximity sensor and a scratch resistant glass surface. It provides a decent resolution for viewing videos and websites. The screen response time is also pretty decent. With around 32GB of internal storage (depending on the model), media library space is no longer an issue. The device also sports a USB port for file transfers. The only problem is that the phone lacks a microSD card slot which means that users will have to make do with the internal memory size.
Anyway, the X6’s firmware will be bumped up to version 21.0.004 and it will have quite a lot of updates.
First is the Nokia Ovi software. Various Ovi components will be getting a few minor updates such as Ovi Store (1.5.6), Ovi Music, Ovi Sync (2.0), and Ovi Contacts (1.50.8). The browser will also be improved as well; it will be patched to version 7.2 and is expected to provide users with a better and faster web experience.
The Appshell will also be getting a less buggy version of the kinetic scrolling in the interface, while several new programs will be added in. A 30 day trial version of Shazam has been included in the OS along with a Rihanna service launcher, version 2.2 of Gimlet, and Mail for Exchange will be bumped up to version 2.9.210.
The update is now available for download through the Ovi service or the OTA function on the handset.

New Firmware Update Available for Nokia X6

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010
The Nokia X6 is a great smart phone: it works as a media station, a portable music player and even as a GPS device (thanks to the free sat nav services on Ovi Maps from Nokia). While the Symbian OS may not be to everyone’s taste, it is hard to deny that the X6 makes for a very practical smart phone choice when it comes to multimedia handsets.
One issue that some X6 owners might have is with the battery. Just like Apple‘s iPhone, the device is often reported as running out of charge early. While some users are able to get a day or two day’s worth of power on a full charge, some users simply cannot get through a single day without charging again. Here are some simply guidelines that users can follow to keep their device running longer.
The first is to bring accessories. Depending on where a user will be and what resources will be available at a destination, the tools needed vary. Extra batteries are always a great idea for people who simply do not have room to store the power charger and need to ensure that the phone is running. Having a charger is also a good idea –as well as a car adapter too. Those who are heavy users might want to consider buying a portable charger as well.
The second tip is to kill any background app that does not need to be running. All too often, users switch out of an app to answer a call or read a message and forget to go back to the software. In that regard, it is best to check with the device menu on the current running apps and shut down any old apps that are still running.
It may just be a couple of tips, but these are pretty important for any Nokia X6 user who needs an extra lease on their battery life.
Leaked Images of Nokia Handset Confuse N-Series Hopefuls
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
The Nokia N-series of handsets have been announced to be the new line of MeeGo devices from the Finnish manufacturer. As of last year, the phone maker announced that they would be dropping the Symbian OS for the N-series and will be adopting the Maemo operating system. With the launch of the Nokia N8 Symbian handset, the company once again affirmed that after this device, all the N-series phones would be using a new OS.
However, it appears that the prototype version of the N9 is not going to be following that rule. In very clear images, the new phone has been shown running the Symbian^3 OS and it has been hinted that the device might be taking on a new designation that would put it in the E-series of handsets.
The device will be packing a 3.5 inch TFT display with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels, the handset’s slide out QWERTY keyboard will have the typical wide four row button configuration and as one would expect, the device will support GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, HSDPA and all the usual smart phone capabilities.
In other Nokia related news, it appears that they have already released the special Virgin Media edition of the Nokia 5230 and the Nokia X6. The two devices have been prepared for the upcoming V Festival that will be held in August and the phones will feature some pretty useful applications for attendees.
Virgin Media is making the handsets very accessible to music fans under special 2 year monthly contracts. The 5230V is available on a 10 Pound monthly tariff and the X6V is free at the 15 Pound monthly plan. Both devices have 3.2 inch touch screens (the X6V has a capacitive touch screen, while the 5230V uses a resistive touch screen), use the Symbian S60 OS and will run on ARM 11 434MHz core processors.
Nokia: Free Cab Rides Powered by Ovi Maps
Friday, May 28th, 2010
Well, it seems that Nokia is really intent in dominating the free sat nav service industry which Google is trying to take a piece of (quite successfully too). In order to promote their new service, and help the people of London travel easier, Nokia has launched a new Taxi service that will ferry passengers for free –all the while showing off the features of the Nokia X6 smart phone.
For those who missed the news, Nokia announced early this year that they are offering their Ovi Maps service for free –yes, that is free voice guided satellite navigation. The offer was made open to all owners of Nokia smart phones that use Ovi Maps; including the then-recently re-launched Nokia X6.
Nokia also announced just a couple of days ago that they have tied up with Yahoo (Google’s competitor in the search engine industry) and that Yahoo maps will now be powered by Ovi maps as well. It’s a very obvious move to match Google’s services, and Nokia and Yahoo have executed it well.
Anyway, getting back to the cabs, the free taxi service is available for anyone who actually gets to hail them. The Nokia representatives driving the vehicle will gladly bring passengers to any destination within a certain radius and for the entire duration of the trip, progress across streets can be tracked by using the on-board Nokia X6 smart phone.
While this advertising strategy may seem odd, it is a rather convenient and cheap way to get around if you are lucky enough to catch one of the cabs. They are painted light yellow and white, with print that easily allows the vehicles to be identified as Nokia cabs. So far, it has not been announced how long this little promotion will continue, so if you see one of the cabs coming your way, better take advantage of it fast.
New Colours for LG GD150 Pop and 16GB Nokia X6
Thursday, January 28th, 2010
There are two updated phones coming this February and if the upcoming barrage of high end Snapdragon powered devices with the new Android and WinMo operating systems is not your thing, then you might want to take a quick look at the new offering from Nokia and LG.
Nokia just recently announced that they will be offering free sat nav services via their Ovi-maps service. This little news means that most of Nokia’s smart phones have become ready to use GPS devices. Now, the Finnish manufacturer is bringing something a little familiar to the table with the 16GB version of the Nokia X6.
Originally, the 32GB version of the X6 came out last year and came with a pretty impressive package. The phone has a 3.2 inch TFT touch screen display that handles images and videos quite wonderfully. Of course, when you have 32GB of free space, you will certainly need lots of content to fill that up. Nokia answers that need with the “Comes with Music” bonus package which grants users unlimited music downloads from the Nokia music store.
The new 16GB version of the X6 will not have the unlimited music download, but will have a significantly cheaper price tag and 25 free downloadable tracks. Not quite the massive library, but when you already have lots of music in digital format, then you
would not need the 25 downloads either.
LG on the other hand is bringing four new colours for its highly popular GD510 Pop. Originally being released in a metallic blue colour only, the Pop will soon be available in red, black, purple and pink. The GD150 Pop is a cute little touch screen GSM phone with a solar panel. Yep, leave this little gizmo out in the sun for 10 minutes and you will get about 2 minutes worth of talk time (about 3 hours of standby).

Nokia is Bringing Out the X6
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
The release date for Nokia’s new media mobile phone is on the 27th, and that is just a day away. This little device promises to deliver excellent music playback capabilities and a new music service from Nokia.
The “all you can eat” music download service form Nokia will definitely get a lot of music lovers interested in this device. Compared to the XpressMusic, the X6 offers more in terms of both hardware and features. Of course, the XpressMusic is an old device (though it did get a couple or reincarnations that specialized in other purposes). Anyway, back to the feature, Nokia will give this phone unlimited free downloads from the Nokia Music Store.
With music phones, storage is always a key concern. After all, there is much bragging right to having all the albums you own available in a single phone. The X6 will not let music lovers down, it has a whopping 32GB of internal memory for all files; videos, music, games, everything. That’s a large storage capacity and of course, you can also back up your files on a computer.
The 5 mega pixel camera boasts an impressive video capturing quality of 30 FPS. The X6 features some nifty applications which will allow you to edit videos and add music. Of course, the big feature (well, most noticeable at least), is the 3.2 inch touch screen. It’s not as big as the screens on other high end phones, but the focus here is one music playback. The screen is said to be scratch resistant.
Also new in this device (not present in the XpressMusic), is the addition of social networking widgets on the home screen. The phone also has an instant access feature on the contacts list –a useful shortcut if you need to get in touch fast.

The Entertaining Offer
There have been a lot of mobile phones out there before that have claimed to be an entertainment phone but none has ever taken entertainment to the same heights that the Nokia X6 has taken it. This new offer from Nokia is an incredible phone that truly allows people to take their entertainment fix out on the streets. Whether it be music, videos, movies, photos, or games, this mobile phone has it. This is definitely the most complete and entertaining mobile phone in the market today.
Music, Photos, and Movie Features
First of all, this is a “Comes with Music” phone and thus, has access to millions of free songs. It also comes with wireless headphone capabilities (via Bluetooth), a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and of course, a great music player.
It also has a 5.0-megapixel camera that captures videos and photos. It even has photo editing (also for video), tagging, and sharing abilities, and can even upload these files to their favorite social networking sites like Flickr, or Facebook.
In terms of video, this mobile phone has a 3.2-inch capacitive touch screen for viewing home videos. The landscape aspect of this mobile phone is so great that it mimics the experience one gets from viewing widescreen movies.
Other Features
Also, this mobile phone comes with great games, access to downloadable content via the Ovi Store, email support, a flash-enabled browser, a huge internal memory, 20 shortcuts that one can place in the homescreen, as well as a whole range of other features that can be typically found in smartphones.
This entertaining offer from Nokia is quite possibly the best entertainment phone in the market today. Add the fact that it is a mere 13.8mm thin and you have a phone that is not only easy to bring but also incredible to use. Grab this mobile phone as soon as you can and be ready for an entertaining experience you will not get from any other device.

Nokia X6: For Entertainment
Sunday, September 27th, 2009
The Nokia X6 is an entertainment phone that really delivers. This can be seen in three main entertainment features; music features, movie features, and gaming features.
Music Features
This is a mobile phone that “Comes with Music.” That is, this is a mobile phone that is equipped with access to millions upon millions of songs for free because of the fact that it is a “Comes with Music” phone. This is put to good use thanks to its impressive music player and its large, internal storage space. This mobile phone also comes with the standard 3.5mm headphone jack as well as Bluetooth connectivity for those who want to have the wireless listening experience.
Movie Features
For the movie feature, this mobile phone can truly impress, thank its 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen for giving users an incredibly wide, and clear medium to view videos or even photos. Not to mention the fact that these videos can be viewed on the landscape orientation, giving the viewers the widescreen experience, and avoiding those irritating distortions. It also has a 5.0-megapixel camera that can also capture video and show them to others via TV output or upload them to their social networking sites.
Gaming Features
Finally, this mobile phone from Nokia comes preloaded with great games (not the usual sudoku, or snake games usually seen in Nokia phones) that rival the game play and experience given by handheld gaming consoles. If these 3 games are not enough, this mobile phone also allows access to N-gage games, which further enhances the gaming experience by always offering users exciting new games.
Certainly, Nokia has come out with a mobile phone that not only threatens the sales of other mobile phones; it might even dent the performances of MP3 players, digital cameras, and even gaming consoles. This is one mobile phone that is made for total entertainment, and you should get one as soon as you get the chance.

Nokia announces three new phones
Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Nokia has just revealed three new phones it has lined up for release in the near future at their Nokia World event that was held today. On show was an official look at what’s come to be known as the N97 Mini and also two new handsets that will be the first in a new series of phones from Nokia oriented towards music lovers.
Photos of the N97 Mini have been floating about for a while and although initially many claimed they were just photoshopped images of the N97, Nokia has now officially confirmed its release. The N97 Mini will not differ significantly from the N97 with the main difference being in terms of its size. With a smaller keypad the N97 Mini has done away with the navigation pad, and aside from some software updates does not appear to offer anything original. Although the reduced size and bulkiness may be welcomed by some who considered the N97 to be too cumbersome it is probably not going to offer enough to make N97 owners switch.
Also on show today were the X3 and X6 phones that are the first of the music-oriented X Series of Nokia phones. The X6 is a 3.2” touch sensitive phone whose screen comes with the widescreen ratio of 16:9. Plenty of music can be stored on the 32GB on board and the X6 makes use of the homescreen found on the 5530 XpressMusic.
The X3 is a lower-end slider phone but is still aimed at music lovers. Although the storage on the X3 is reduced to 46MB this can be upgraded to 16GB with microSD. Included for music are stereo speakers and an FM radio and both the X3 and X6 will make use of Ovi Store where new music can be downloaded.
All three phones should be released towards the end of the year and official dates will become available closer to that time.
