Nokia Recalls 14 Million Defective Chargers

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Nokia-charger-recallJeez Nokia, again? This is the first time Nokia is pulling out chargers and replacing them for free mind, you? But this is not the first time Nokia has caused the public to raise a collective eyebrow at their business practices. While the actually fault is not Nokia’s; the obvious lack of quality control internally to Nokia is evident. We can safely assume that Nokia is suing the pants off manufacturer BYD unless the manufacturer does something about the latest screw up. Screw up is such a weak term for what could be gross negligence which could potentially lead to loss of home and life for many people.

The recall and replacement of Nokia chargers is a service offered by Nokia across UK; there is no specific scope as to which regions are directly affected but we can safely assume that all the chargers that were produced by BYD under a certain period of time are defective. Nokia’s official website will allow users to see the identifying marks of chargers in order to determine if your charger is one of the defective units.

There are only three models of the BYD chargers that are confirmed to be defective, and Nokia will replace yours for free if you were unfortunate to have purchased one or have gotten it along with a mobile phone purchase.

In case you are wondering, the defect is with the plastic cover of the outlet. The assembly is such a bad whack job that the cover will eventually fall off exposing the wires and doodads within. The bottom line, this exposed wiring is an electrical and fire hazard. Nokia must be thanking fate that no one has had an accident with these dangerous chargers. That would have really blown their reputation.  Nokia, next time, go get a better manufacturer for these delicate accessories please.
