If you’re like us, you’re probably quite tired of all these rumors that build up your hopes and then drop them lower than they were. Like seriously, how long can it take to bring an iPhone with the color “blanco” to the market? Most naturally, by the time it arrives, we’ll be waiting for the iPhone 5.
That said, we’re hearing that the iPhone 4 White Edition will be landing in the UK next month. You might be wondering where these rumors surfaced, well after photo spaces clearly appeared on Apple’s online store saying that “The white iPhone 4 will be available in spring 2011” and thanks to statements released in October of last year, these tipsters believe that the UK could be getting lucky with the iPhone hitting Vodofone in March.
Remember that Apple originally said the iPhone 4 White would be available in July of last year. Then thanks to unforeseen complications in the manufacturing process, it was delayed until “later this year.” As many can see, “this year” has past more than a month ago and still no white iPhone, so forgive our suspicion that this could be another false rumor.
That said, Google hasn’t been doing too badly about bringing a white version of its flagship device to the market. It’s no iPhone 4, but with the same if not better internal specs, we’re wondering what is holding Apple back. If we had a guess, it could be the fact that Apple realizes the problems it suffered due to its faulty antenna design and the fact that the glass on the back of the iPhone has been known to crack when it gets in contact with dust particles in cases. It could be that Apple is trying to right these wrongs with the white version.

White iPhone 4 hitting UK in March?
Thursday, February 3rd, 2011Apple iOS 4.3 and White iPhone Coming Soon
Tuesday, December 7th, 2010
The Android 2.3 Gingerbread is about to arrive; further pushing the operating system further along the evolution the ladder. Its Cupertino based rival, the Apple iOS is not about to be left behind in this time and age. The new OS is reported to be getting a new system before the end of the year rolls out.
Apple’s iOS 4.3 will be featuring plenty of new features –in particular, for the iPod Touch and the iPhone OS. Some of you might remember that the previous patch, version 4.2 provided features for all systems, but focused mainly on the missing features on the Apple iPad touch screen tablet.
Aside from the new version of the iOS, another update from Apple has also been reported as well. A recently released bit of information is certain to make some of you folks happy: the white iPhone 4 is back in production and will be released soon.
While we still cannot grasp why so many people are so excited about the plain looking, all white version of the Apple iPhone 4, the bottom line is that it is expected to roll out by spring of 2011. It will certainly be a long wait, but the release is at least certain. The only thing we can hope for now is that the new smart phone version will also have a fixed antenna –unlike the original iPhone 4 that suffered from the issues that were later regarded as the antennagate.
With the rivalry between Apple and Google growing stronger by the minute, it cannot be helped that the newly launched Microsoft Windows Phone 7 mobile platform remains pretty much in the back with low sales results –which is quite a surprising result as it was originally expected that he competition would be a three way fest between all the companies involved.
Today’s News in a Flash
Friday, December 3rd, 2010
Mobile updates have come aplenty today, and if time is a resource that you are short on, here is a quick list of all the things that you would need to stay up to date with all the latest developments.
First off, Motorola’s Olympus headset has been left behind ala the iPhone 4 prototype, while it is almost certain that there will be no media and legal shenanigans coming, we can all expect to see more hype about the Tegra 2 handset.
Speaking of the Tegra, the LG Star has been confirmed and that makes two smart phones making use of the high powered NVIDIA processor. And it is also astounding that both devices are Android smart phones as well.
ACER has confirmed that their grand plans for the smart phone industry are not limited to the Android or WP7 handsets. While their current lineup offers no other platforms, ACER has confirmed that they will be working on a new MeeGo device.
The UK has been confirmed as one of the countries that has the largest number of mobile phone subscribers. With plenty of networks and excellent plans to choose from, it is no wonder that more and more people are signing up for monthly tariffs.
Microsoft is taking in a major loss as the sales for the Windows Phone 7 are unbelievably low. While it was expected that the platform would be getting a slow start, that was not the long term projection. So far, there is no official word from Steve Ballmer about what action he would do next.
RIM has shown off a new concept phone yesterday, the EMPATHY. This prototype looks a lot like a piece of black crystal that turns almost transparent when not in use. Another prototype concept phone has come out, though this one not made for any specific mobile platform: a handset that floats with the use of magnetic technology on a charging dock. While it is a novelty concept, it is utterly impressive as to how a spinning motion will create an illusion of a 3D icon for the floating device.
A Closer Look at the iOS 4.2 Update
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
The new iOS update is officially out (after several weeks of waiting and a few delays slowing it down) and here is the quick summary of everything that users can look forward to.
First off, be aware that this update is primarily targeting iPad users over those who only have an iPhone or an iPod Touch. Apple has made no specific comment regarding this matter, but apparently, it seems that recent statements saying that the iPad is nothing but an oversized iPod Touch has needed some amending from the Cupertino based company. In any case, expect that most of these new features are only good for the touch screen tablet.
The iPad will now have multitasking features thanks to the OS update. This feature is pretty much the same as the one in the iPhone 4. This means that this is actually pseudo multi-tasking; given how Apple tends to cut features short, this is already more than what we can hope for when it comes to getting features that are actually practical.
Another important iPhone 4 feature that got implemented with the iOS 4.0 update is the use of folders. As to why it was not part of the features brought over initially to the iPad, we have no idea. But it is finally here now and it will spare users that endless stream of icons as users tend to fill up their menus with an overload of apps.
The consolidated inbox of the iPhone 4 also makes an appearance here as well. This is particularly useful for folks who happen to have multiple email accounts and would like to have all incoming mail sent to a single viewing area.
Of course, the update also brings features for other devices as well, the MobileMe remote access service is now free, AirPrint and AirPlay are now available, and the iPhone gets customized message alert tones per contact.
Apple iAds in the UK, White Conversion Mods on Sale
Friday, November 19th, 2010
Unofficially, the white Apple iPhone 4 is now technically available. A young Asian-American entrepreneur has been able to acquire the official front and back white casings for the high end touch screen smart phone and is selling the front and back panels.
Those who cannot wait until the official release of the iPhone 4 (and have plenty of confidence in their dexterity and skill in prying open the handset’s front and back panels) should have no problems with the conversion mod. Since the parts are officially from Foxconn (and are also legally acquired) the end product will definitely be the same –provided that Apple decides not to change a single thing about the hardware.
As some of you may recall, the iPhone 4 has a serious problem with the antenna on the device (along with several other issues) and many are hoping that when the white version of the handset finally gets released, these problems would have already been fixed. In fact, it has been hinted before that the white version would feature solutions to the problems of the original.
While no major actions have been taken to stop the selling of the white iPhone panels, it is also reported that Apple has already sent legal letters telling the site to stop selling the product.
In other Apple news, the iAds system will finally be introduced in the UK. While not everyone likes ads, the fact that downloadable content is sponsored means that end users will get more content for a slightly lower price. Of course, the additional bandwidth that the system takes up is not noticeable unless the connection is really slow or unstable.
Several major companies have already signed up for the service including Louis Vuitton and Unilever. According to sources, iAds will be available in the UK starting this coming December.
White iPhone Cancelled and More
Monday, November 1st, 2010
Rumors that the white iPhone 4 may be cancelled have hit the streets as the Cupertino based company has officially removed the page from their website online. The color variation of the iPhone 4 has been in great demand since within the first few weeks of the official iPhone 4 launch.
So far, Apple has not made an official statement regarding the matter. The last word given was that the device would be delayed and that the most likely release date will be by next year –many expect the new white iPhone 4 to be an upgrade of the original version –doing away with the issues regarding the device’s exposed antenna.
In other phone news, T-Mobile and Orange UK will be opening Everything Everywhere stores all over the UK on November 24. Confirmed locations include Weston-Super-Mare, Hertford, Palmers Green, Tooting, Bridgend, and Dorchester. It is reported that the Tooting branch will certainly open on the 24th with other locations to follow in the same month.
For those looking for a budget Android tablet, one is already out on the market. The Elonex eTouch touch screen tablet brings in a 7 inch capacitive touch screen display, an ARM 11 1GHz CPU, a 2GB solid state hard drive, and support for microSD cards. The only issue here is that the device only runs Android 2.1 Éclair and no news or announcements regarding possible updates could mean that the device might be stuck with this version forever. At the very least, the device is up for just about 90 GBP on Toys ‘R’ Us. A 10 inch version of the same device comes with a price tag of about 150 GBP.
Lastly, those excited about the Windows Phone 7 mobile platform will be happy to know that the handset will support a Kindle app and of course, eBook reading. This little functionality will certainly bring a smile to many people.
News Updates: White iPhone Delayed and Nexus 2 Rumors
Thursday, October 28th, 2010
It seemed not too long ago that Google officially announced that they would not be making another handset in the Nexus One series. In fact, it can easily be recalled that Google specifically stated that the Nexus One was only meant to bring the benchmark for Android smart phones up to certain standard and that the handset has already succeeded in what it was supposed to do –as opposed to making a profit that Google was already making in plenty of other ways.
So when we see rumors that a potential Google Nexus Two is on the horizon, we immediately react with raised eyebrows.’
But the possibility is not as completely null as one might imagine. After all, there are millions in the smart phone market and Google has no reason to refrain from going at it again –this time for actual sales profit even. Despite arguments that the developer would end up antagonizing their industry partners –that also make Android phones, the fact is that Google’s devices would simply spice things up. And unlike Samsung, HTC, LG and other developers, Google would only launch one device at a time; leaving most of the competition still in the hands of the phone makers.
So what about the rest of the rumors? According to speculations, the new Nexus phone is UK bound and that Google is looking into the possibility of a tie up with a specific retailer (named to be Carphone Warehouse in certain sources).
In other news, the White iPhone 4 seems to be really hard to produce as the elusive handset has once again been delayed for launch. The latest news regarding the device now states that the phone will not be out in store shelves until 2011 rolls in -actually far too long of a wait for a simple white version of the Apple handset.
All Things Apple: Today’s Highlights
Wednesday, October 20th, 2010
Steve Jobs has done it again; the turtleneck wearing master of presentations and chief honcho of Cupertino based Apple has gotten himself in another messy media break out with a dispute regarding “open source” with Google’s Andy Rubin. Jobs stated that the iOS is not fragmented as he so describes the Google Android and that the iPhone’s uniformity is a stark contrast to the Android’s more varied approach per owner –usually as a result of various customizable settings.
The man did point out some rather valid advantages of the iPhone over the Android (depending on the context), it does not actually declare that that iOS is an open source standard. As such, many are comparing this argument to his previous statements about the iPhone 4’s antenna problems.
Speaking of which, it seems that the newest version of the iPhone seems to have resolved the issue of the faulty antenna. Initial screenshots show that the next batch of iPhone 4 devices will not have that infamous gap in the side that caused the dropping of calls.
Right now, there is a bit of a confusion regarding the news of a second version of the iPhone 4 and what might actually be a test prototype for the iPhone 5. While many would say that it is far too early for the iPhone 5 to be so far along in production, the possibility still remains in the air.
In the meanwhile, despite all of Steve Job’s constant meddling in the media, Apple is enjoying a pretty large margin of profit. With 14.1 million units sold in just one quarter, the folks at Cupertino certainly have something to be proud about. Industry experts predict that the sales would just continue to keep growing as the holidays arrive.
Lastly, Jobs has also confirmed that Apple will not be producing a smaller 7 inch iPad.
Diamond Encrusted iPhone 4, Flash and HTC Trophy
Monday, October 18th, 2010
It appears that Flash media is not as obsolete as Steve Jobs says it is. According to developers at Adobe, they have reached the 1 millionth download from Android smart phones and the number is still growing.
This shows that despite the previous comments from Steve Jobs and some Apple purists, Flash remains as one of the most used dynamic media formats on the internet. While there are also plenty of annoying Flash advertisements, the fact that there are still many people who love Flash –especially small, independent game developers shows that the format is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Of course, the upcoming Windows Phone 7 is waiting for a Flash update. Andy Lees has stated that the use of plugins is no longer applicable to the new browser being used by the WP7 mobile platform. This means that Adobe is still churning out a version of the Flash player that can be embedded in the core function.
HTC’s 7 Trophy WP7 smart phone is confirmed to be a Vodafone exclusive and as such, the device will no longer be in the Amazon UK website. Microsoft’s new mobile platform is due to be released by the 22nd of October which means that the 7 Trophy as well as the rest of the Windows Phone 7 devices.
Lastly, prepare to spend over 5 million Pounds as the world’s most expensive iPhone 4 modification shows itself. Not that people want to have 500 pieces of flawless cut diamonds that has been encrusted to the handset. While this may seem excessive, this actually turns the handset into the most expensive handset in the world.
Many are hoping that the exposed antenna portion will also be covered up by the addition of the diamonds, as all iPhone 4s are confirmed to be having the same problem. The phone was designed by resident of Liverpool.
The Next Step: iPhone 5 Rumors
Friday, October 8th, 2010
With the antennagate issue now long past behind us, Apple is quietly trying to regain lost ground on their iPhone 4.
Despite the fact that the device has sold several millions in just a short span of time, one cannot deny the fact that the antenna issue was a costly problem for Apple and in being able to properly market the iPhone 4. Because of this, the company is now moving onwards.
While many speculated that something new might happen this October for Apple, it appears that the Cupertino based company is still back at the drawing board, cooking up some new fangled technology.
The October announcement that the iPhone 4 free cases will cease distribution by the end of September made it seem like Apple would have a different solution (or phone by then), right now, it seems pretty obvious that they simply have grown tired of giving out the bumpers for free.
But there are rumors about the next iPhone, or as we would call it, the iPhone 5; and judging from all the content floating around on the net, here is a quick picture of how the final product might be like.
First off, the next iPhone will not be introducing game changing features. The fact is, it is just too early, and no new technology has been developed that would make the cut for such a title. At best, the new phone will simply improve on all the issues of the previous devices –this means no more antenna problems for the next device.
Oddly enough, rumors still say that the device might be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. At 1GHz, this is already fast, but since it has already been announced that dual core versions of the CPU are in the works, it might be possible that we might just get a very high speed iPhone in the future.
