Asus Releases Standalone Touch screen Tablet

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Taiwan, Computex – Asus has revealed an all new line of portable devices and these are not netbooks. The newest addition to the Eee PC series of devices are tablets; it may seem like a very predictable move, but with Asus steady position in the portable computers industry, the company still took some risks with the launch of these new products.

ep121(b)The EP101TC is a bit of a tablet computer and is mostly a tablet media device. In that aspect, this not-so tablet PC is actually a direct competitor to the Apple iPad. While the EP121 is new generation tablet computer, the EP101TC tries to be a little a little of both, and from the looks of it Asus has hit the balance pretty closely.

Of course, it all boils down to the operating system. While it is hard to explain in detail, the platform running on Asus’ tablet is actually Windows CE –not exactly cutting edge in terms of software choice, but it still works. Hopefully, the system is upgradeable to the upcoming Windows Phone 7 OS, else it would face tough competition from both the Apple iPhone OS and the Google Android.

Apps will also be a major concern. Microsoft’s aging platform is not exactly an exciting OS for developers to bother with; especially with the 2.2 Android, Symbian^4 and iPhone 4.0 OS coming soon, this tablet will be hard pressed to get support from devs.

If Asus does get a Windows Phone 7 update however, it could completely change the playing field and potentially give Asus and Microsoft an edge over Apple’s iPad. Right now, Asus has yet to reveal the full specs on the device –particularly regarding the length of the device’s battery life and of course, how much processing the NVIDIA Tegra can really do before draining the battery.

Azus-P835-FrontThe Asus P835 is a great mobile with a really cool look is due to be released later this year. This neat handset has a 5mega pixel camera with auto focus and video recording on a 3.5” screen. This phone has lots of great features and there will be some long queues to get one on its final release date. The phone measures 115x58x13.8 mm and weighs a 148 gr. Not the smallest phone perhaps but still neat enough to fit in your pocket. If you wait a little while after the official release date then you are bound to get some Asus P835 deals.  Certainly there are plenty of people waiting for the official release of a phone that allows practically unlimited entries and call records.

Azus-P835-FrontI often read what people have to say about new phones that are coming on the market, and I have to say that the Asus P835 reviews are mostly very positive. The phone has a 2G network and a TFT resistive touch screen. The phone has WiFi and Bluetooth connections, as well as a USB port. The phone comes complete with Microsoft Windows mobile, so you can work on documents when necessary, as well as SMS, MMS and email. One letdown is that the phone does not have its own radio, but it does come with pocket office and MP3 Player – so you can download some of your favourite tunes. It certainly has a better camera than the Asus P320, which is why some users of that phone can’t wait for the new one. There is some really great news for those users who object to being tied down to a contract phone, you’ll save money with the Asus P835 pay as you go phone. If you are looking for a great phone that won’t cost the earth to run then you might consider the Asus P835.
