Apple has been anything but quiet about the iPad touch screen tablet, but so far, nobody seems to know what we would actually see once the device becomes available on store shelves.
It has already been confirmed that the iPad will be released in the USA by April 3 and a local UK release is expected to arrive by late April. Only the 3G version of the device will initially be available in the US, but both the non-3G and 3G versions will be available at the time of the UK launch.
So what will happen once this impressive 10 inch tablet becomes present in our homes?
The biggest asset of the iPad is that it allows users to easily access the internet. Sure, there is 3G and WiFi for smart phones. But smart phones make users compromise when it comes to screen size and of course, layout. Naturally, the lack of Adobe Flash support on the iPad is a major drag when viewing many websites (particularly official sites of many big name brands), but aside from that, having a full 1024 x 768 pixel resolution delivers an excellent quality browsing experience.
The device will also be able to read eBooks, play media files and of course, play video games. No big titles have been released, but it looks like Apple is getting its developers to develop for the tablet. Zen Bound will be getting an iPad-edition release and if trends continue, we can expect to see high resolution versions of other games to be available as well.
Another big draw to the iPad is its supposedly amazing battery life. Steve Jobs and Apple have been pretty proud of the 10 hour battery life announcement, but with no proof and their own admission that they have yet to test the hardware fully, this might lead to some pretty ugly class action lawsuits.

Apple iPad about to be Released, What Should We Expect?
Friday, March 12th, 2010Non-3G iPad: No Tethering to iPhone
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010
The iPad is going to be one expensive device when it finally comes out late April in the UK, while some of you may prefer to go for the non-3G version and are simply hoping to do a quick tether to your Apple iPhone’s 3G connection, Steve Jobs has brought down a bad news bomb by announcing that the iPad and the iPhone cannot be tethered.
This obviously will be one of the ways for Apple to push marketing of its iPad 3G models and in some ways, the concept is pretty redundant (if you are already online on your iPhone, why bother connecting with the iPad). The lack of interconnectivity is not a surprise when it comes to Jobs (who should probably be crowned as the emperor of electronic inconveniences), but in some ways, this also reflects badly on Apple’s care for its end users.
The lack of additional connectivity options will certainly drive down the demand for non-3G versions of the device; this may even get worse with the fact that 4G networks are also coming soon.
For those who missed out on the earlier scoops about the iPad, this new device is Apple’s touch screen tablet that is capable of browsing the net, running apps (compatible with both iPhone & iPod Touch apps and will also have its own exclusive set of apps available), reading eBooks, playing games and will even serve as a mini workstation (with the use of the iWork feature). The device lacks flash support and the ability to multi task; two major low points that many consider to be a major weakness.
Originally, the device was supposed to be launched earlier, but had been delayed to late April. Rumors state that the delay was caused by a problem in manufacturing in China.

iPad Coming this Late April
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
If you have been planning to get an Apple iPad when it comes out, you will have to wait until late April as latest updates show that the device will not be releasing in the UK as early as its’ US counterpart. The United States will be getting the touch screen tablet by April 3, almost a full month ahead of the UK.
Apple has not confirmed the reasons why the UK release date has been pushed back, but there are speculations that this announcement may be tied to the fact that the manufacturer has been having problems with its China based manufacturers. Should this actually be true, and if the problems continue, this could also affect the production and release of other Apple devices as well.
The late April launch will give Apple some extra time to market the iPad a little better in the UK. With general knowledge about the device being at an all time low (surveys show that less than a third of British adults are actually familiar with the capabilities and limitations of the device), it will be hard for Apple to convince the public that this device is worth its very expensive price tag.
For those who not part of that ‘less than thirty percent’; here is a quick rundown of the Apple iPad tablet.
First off, the device has a nice big 9.7 inch touch screen that auto rotates. The resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels in landscape mode. Half the screen is used by the virtual keyboard that users can access for typing emails and long messages, sadly, the device cannot multi task making it restricting to do certain tasks. The tablet can handle 3D games and heavy applications thanks to the 1GHz A4 processor (still using ARM technology).

Apple iPhone 4G Fan Art Shows Nice Possibilities
Monday, March 8th, 2010
Well, taking aside the term “possibilities”, we might as well go for the word “wishes”.
Steve Jobs is a very odd man and is quite hard to predict at times. But there are a few things that are constant with Jobs. First, he will make for some of the most impressive stage presentations for unveiling new devices, features and services –seriously, we cannot think of anyone doing it better, the running joke is that Microsoft should even hire the guy to present the new MS operating systems.
The second thing about Steve Jobs is that once he puts his foot down, he will be too stubborn to change his stand. This has been the case with the lack of Flash –something that Jobs does not believe in, instead, he would rather go with HTML5.
Thus we find ourselves staring longingly at the micro SD card support and front mounted digital camera found in Seraphan’s iPhone 4G 3D fan art. We know, it is not the real thing, but this set of multi colored smart phones is the closest we can probably get to see such features on the iPhone 4G.
Steve Jobs has yet to actually deliver his stand on such technologies, but with Apple’s history with closed devices, there is very little doubt that we should expect anything else from the upcoming 4G smart phone.
Ranting aside, the iPhone 4G does have some impressive new features that are worth looking forward to. First off, it has been reported that the new smart phone will be using a touch sensitive external casing –which means a whole new user experience for us. The phone will also have a large 4 inch touch screen –or even larger; as well as the new high speed processor expected to hit speeds of over 1.3GHz.

Apple versus HTC: Getting Bigger than Expected
Friday, March 5th, 2010
Considering that infringement lawsuits are being thrown around like tomatoes on a Spanish holiday, one would think that the recent Apple lawsuit would stir things up for a couple of weeks to keep us entertained until the cool phones start launching later this month and in April.
Apple on the other hand, has bigger things planned.
When Apple filed a lawsuit against Nokia, it was simply a matter of two bickering companies. After all, Nokia was first to file a lawsuit earlier. With HTC however, this pre-emptive strike is more than just Apple enforcing its well prepared patents, it is a crippling strike to the Android operating system and to Google itself.
HTC is considered to be one of the core promoters of the Android mobile platform. They are one of the founding members of the Open Handset Alliance and is the first mobile phone manufacturer to make a device for the Android OS: the HTC Dream. It came as to no surprise that HTC was also the company that made the Nexus One –Google’s first self-branded Android smart phone.
Apple’s lawsuit could not have come at a better timing. 2010 is the year where the biggest number of Android smart phones would be manufactured by various companies. Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Garmin-Asus and many other companies have Android devices coming this year. The lawsuit points out 20 hardware and software elements –meaning that if any of the software based items are linked to the Android, other manufacturers would also fall victim to the lawsuit.
Google on the other hand has taken its stand; they are supporting HTC all the way as an industry partner –in a rather unsurprising move after the Android got pulled into the mess.

Apple iPad: More Expensive and Slightly Delayed
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
Steve Jobs is still the man, despite what everyone else thinks. And Apple will still be pushing through with the release of the iPad tablet in the UK.
Now, it has been confirmed that instead of the original late March launch, the iPad will hit UK store shelves sometime during April. While the delay is short, it places the iPad’s launch strategically close to several Android smart phone devices –a pretty good plan considering that the iPhone 4G is not due to come until much later this year.
So, what are we getting with the iPad?
First off, a bigger price tag; if you have seen the original announcement about the US prices for the device and brought out your nifty currency calculation app, don’t. Comparing the prices will just show how much more expensive the UK prices for the iPad are –unless you want to be discouraged from buying the newfangled gizmo.
Aside from that, the rest of the specifications remain the same. The iPad will have a 9.7 inch capacitive touch screen, plenty of useful applications, an onscreen keyboard, the ability to play app games, read eBooks and of course, browse the internet. Just do not expect to do more than one thing at the same time.
If there are two things missing from the iPad, it is support for Flash content and more importantly, the ability to multi-task. So far, Apple has not explained as to why the tablet cannot multi task when the hardware is more than capable of handling it. As for missing Flash support, Steve Jobs has been firm in stating that Flash is unreliable and that HTML5 is the right way to go.

Steve Jobs Says Yes to Playboy, No to iBoobs
Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Men all over the world are claiming foul at the apparent double standard that Apple is placing on what apps should be allowed on the iPhone app store and what apps should not.
As we all know, Apple has pretty strict rules about which apps it will allow to be posted and made available online. While they recently eased back on the tightness a few weeks ago, a sudden change of heart from the folks at Apple saw the banishing of over a thousand applications they deemed not suitable for the app store due to the inclusion of malicious and adult content.
At the same time, applications for both Playboy and Sports Illustrated are still allowed by Apple.
Many believe that Steve Jobs has a lot to fix regarding this matter. Applications such as iBoobs offer just as much ‘adult content’ as Playboy yet only iBoobs was taken off the site. Some may argue that the Playboy application offers plenty of content for viewing while the iBoobs application is simply a novelty app that allows users to jiggle virtual breasts.
When asked about Sports Illustrated, it is defended as a “well-known company with previously published material available broadly in a well accepted format”. While the rest of the statement holds true, we doubt that “well accepted format” would be an apt term when you look at all the women’s rights lobbying against the sale of both Playboy and Sport Illustrated.
Would Apple have shut down iBoobs had it been a Hugh Hefner product? We certainly doubt it, Apple seems to allow big name companies and developers to keep their wares with small independent app devs are getting a wrong end of the shaft.
In any case, this will not be the first time Apple has faced backlash over its double standards in mobile phone apps.

Apple and Google move aside for Facebook
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Facebook just won the award for most innovative company, beating industry giants Google and Apple.
The list is compiled by the “Fast Company” which makes an annual listing of many companies from all over the world. It is a very telling award, as this prestige is not based on profit or sales success, but as the name says: innovation.
Boasting over millions of users and thousands of applications, Facebook has become a critical part of the lifestyle of many individuals and businesses all over the world. Facebook app developers enjoy a tremendous amount of profit and fame from the various ads and pay services they can offer with their products. Games are the cash cows for some dev teams with titles such as “Vampire Wars” and “Mafia Wars” gaining thousands of users each day.
Many people will admit to spending more than an hour of each day being online and going on Facebook. Others spend more than half a day. There are users who constantly check their profile for new updates and status messages. Mobile applications that integrate Facebook generate plenty of success by allowing people to easily access their accounts or upload their media. Even mobile phone manufacturers recognize Facebook, many devices already come with built in applications or integrated functions for the social networking tool.
If, by chance, you have never experienced using Facebook (no kidding, there are people who still do not know what it is), it is a social networking tool that allows users to keep in touch with contacts. Users can post updates, videos, images, and links to favorite sites. Polls and other Facebook-made applications can also be shared. With its easy to use functions and highly social-centric environment, we can expect to see more of Facebook for the next few years.

Bill Gates Comments on the iPad
Monday, February 15th, 2010
Getting second opinions from experts is always an interesting thing to do. After all, the reactions and comments of the very men and women who have shaped the world of digital technology provide some of the most intriguing and valuable insight.
Early on, Google China’s former president, Kai-Fu Lee, expressed his excitement and belief that the Apple iPad is a truly exciting device. The man is not to be taken lightly; he is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of IT and to this day, continues to teach guide young men and women on how to succeed in the industry.
On the other hand, Microsoft’s founder (and former boss) Bill Gates has not been so fond of the new Apple Tablet. Considering that the man has had such high regard for the Apple iPhone, his comments are not to be shrugged off either.
Gates believes that the net book is the key technology that companies should focus on and that it will be the mainstream. On the hand, he believes that the Apple iPhone was an amazing device and wishes that “Microsoft had done it”.
For those who missed Steve Job’s presentation, the iPad packs a large 9.7 inch touch screen display with an accelerometer for auto rotation, a native resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and a virtual keyboard. It runs on a 1GHz A4 processor and is capable of handling games, eBooks, browsing and various other functions. It’s a great device, but it lacks multi tasking capabilities which is actually a big problem for many people.
All in all, it looks like even industry experts are on the fence regarding tablet devices. Despite Gate’s comments, Microsoft is already working on its own dual screen tablet, the Courier.

iPhone 4G: Bigger than Ever
Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Size matters.
Or so goes the Godzilla movie slogan. In any case, it looks like the upcoming iPhone 4G is targeting the high end mobile phone market with its hardware and size.
The size is a big issue since it was the iPhone that originally set the standard on how slim we can expect mobile phones to be. While we have no qualms about extra wide devices such as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and the HTC HD2 (they have huge touch screens anyway), we never quite expected the iPhone to be part of that market range. In any case, new images of the iPhone 4G frame show that the device will be about a quarter of an inch bigger.
Aside from the larger size, details about the upcoming device are still up in the air. Various reports state that the new iPhone will also have a touch sensitive casing, allowing you to make input commands on the case and the screen of the device. While it is hard to imagine how this technology will be implemented, expect the control dynamic of mobile phones to take a revolutionary step if Apple implements this feature.
The phone is also rumored to come packed with a dual core processor. If we are to base this on the technology on the iPad, it is possible that Apple has been working on a dual core version of the A4 processor. Another interesting piece of news is that the device will have a removable battery. While this is not a common feature for an Apple gadget, it is a welcome change of pace.
The new iPhone is expected to be running the new 4.0 operating system. Chances are it has been tweaked to compete with the new Android OS.
