Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Reviewed Again

Details continue to leak about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the PSP Phone that everyone has been talking about for a couple of years now. The latest leaks come to us via ePrice which had a chance to take the device for a spin including giving some measurements and testing out the device.

Like noted before, the device will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread on top a 1GHz processor with a 4-inch display giving all the awesome details in a resolution of 854 x 480. There are slide out PSP controls, much like what you would see on the PSP Go. There is a 5 megapixel camera on the back as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack and standard 1500mAh battery. The Xperia Play peasures 12cm tall and 10cm wide when open.

Obviously, the device is going to be focused on entertainment and gaming and thanks to more game specific API’s in Android 2.3, it is clear that the Xperia Play could be one of the many gaming centric devices to be released with Android running the show.

Little is known so far concerning whether the Xperia Play will have a dedicated app store or if Sony Ericsson will have some type of software built on top of Android where it can run its games specifically for the Xperia Play platform.

With Apple and Microsoft being the two biggest players in the mobile gaming department, Android has been playing catchup, but thanks to close collaboration between the Mountain View and Tokyo companies, the Sony Xperia Play will bridge that gap as Sony is betting big bucks on this device.

Other rumors say that the Xperia Play’s design might in fact be very close to that of the PSP 2 which is said to be currently in the works.
