Quick News: Android’s Success, BlackBerry Torch Confirmed and More

There is no doubt that Android’s success was forthcoming, but nobody expected that the Android would be able to surpass the established market presence that Apple claimed for several years now.

It is a well established fact that thanks to the various handsets that the Android is being run on, it is natural for the volume of the Android users to easily surpass that of iPhone users. But aside from just sheer market share, it was also believed that the Google mobile platform was still attracting plenty of attention even from folks who use other mobile handsets. In fact, a large percent of iPhone users are thinking of switching to an Android (there are, of course, Android users that want to switch to the iPhone as well).

According to a recent study the sales of the Android smart phone has managed to surpass the sales of the iPhone in the United States. However, this does not take into account the entirety of the sales for the newly launched iPhone 4.

The BlackBerry Slide 9800 is still making plenty of rumor rounds this week (now official as the Torch 9800). Now the only thing we have to see is whether the new mobile platform’s version (BlackBerry 6) is really the market pleaser that it was designed to be.

With waning interest in BlackBerry devices, RIM has opted to change their OS layout to be more dynamic and to make use of touch based controls.

Lastly, O2 UK has confirmed the September launch date for the XPERIA X8 Android smart phone; despite the XPERIA label, the device is actually more of a larger X10 Mini. Both of the handsets share similar specifications except for the fact that the X8 is simply larger than the X10 Mini.
