Research in Motion has finally decided to bring out all the juicy details on their muck leaked about smart phone the BlackBerry Torch 9800 smart phone. The handset has been out in the past week in a series of images that clearly showed the touch screen slider phone in all of its glory. While the details on the device’s name was not revealed at that time, many called the device as the BlackBerry 9800 Slider –which is actually a pretty fitting name as the handset does have a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
While we were originally put off by the portrait slide form factor, RIM’s announcement that the balance of the handset remains stable even with the keyboard slid out is certainly reassuring.
Anyway, in the past couple of days, various mobile network operators in the UK have confirmed that they will be offering the BlackBerry Torch 9800 when it finally comes out later this year. Among the latest additions to the list of networks is Orange Mobile UK.
For those still unfamiliar with the handset, this is going to be the first time that the BlackBerry OS 6 smart phone will be revealed to the world -along with its’ new features. For starters, RIM has now started to target the general market. The controls are easy to input thanks to the touch screen controls and of course, plenty of focus on multimedia playback capabilities.
The new phone is going to have a nice 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen display, a 5 mega pixel camera, a 624 MHz CPU, and of course, all the features that one would expect from the BlackBerry OS.
So far, no prices or launch date for the BlackBerry handset has been announced but many expect the device to be available before the end of August or by early September.
