Are Mobiles Over-saturating Social Networking?

There is not denying the fact that social networking has changed a lot since the first few successful websites. In the early days of MySpace and Multiply, web access was strictly limited to desktop computers and netbooks. This did not discourage millions of users from signing up for the free online social networking services, but it also limited what people could do at that time. Also, social networks back then were also more limited in the scope of what they could offer.

The introduction of 3G, WiFi and better smart phone technology changed all that –along with the introduction of a new social network; Facebook.

The whole setup was pretty much a great hand in hand combination with the new wireless communication technology encouraging people to go online more. And when you are travelling around with a smart phone –getting online simply took a few screen taps –as opposed to having to sit down in front of a computer and waiting for long boot times.

With a mobile phone, users had the device ready to use, anytime, anywhere. This meant that social networking could be done from virtually anywhere. In a span of a few short months, the number of Facebook users grew exponentially, showing the world that this system is more powerful than anyone ever imagined it to be.

However, recent reports show that the number of new users signing up for the social networking site has decreased. And people are actually spending less time on the service. According to some analysts, this is due to several factors –one of which is the fact that most people are already on the network and do not need to sign up, and another is that people are simply getting tired of it all.

In any case, we can always expect new social networks to arrive and mobile phone technology to live on.
