It has been a couple of weeks worth of waiting, but the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini Pro smart phone is finally getting shipped to the UK. According to recent news, the Android handset is expected to arrive in a “matter of days”.
This Android smart phone is something that Android fans will certainly want to look forward to as the device is expected to become a major hit among heavy text senders and email users. X10 Mini Pro’s biggest asset is that it is very small, and as amusing as the pun may be, that is actually quite true. For its small size, the X10 Mini Pro manages to deliver a very impressive Android smart phone experience –one that users will certainly enjoy.
X10 Mini Pro’s slide out QWERTY keyboard will certainly be a joy to use –the 4 row layout provides evenly spaced keys with nicely designed buttons that have been designed to help prevent accidentally pressing the wrong keys –it works great even for users with stubby fingertips.
Of course, there are drawbacks to the Sony Ericsson handset; for one thing, the version of the Google mobile platform is actually quite old. The Android 1.6 Donut is a reliable version of the open source OS, but it lacks the new feel and additional features of the more commonly used and more updated Android 2.1 Éclair. In fact, for an Android smart phone that will be newly released, having the old OS would certain discourage many users from using this handset.
Currently, it is believed that the Android devices from Sony Ericsson, such as the original XPERIA X10 and X10 Mini, will be getting a major software patch or update later this year which would bring the devices up to version 2.1 Éclair. This still leaves the smart phones behind as most of the existing 2.1 devices are already awaiting a 2.2 Froyo update.
