Windows Phone 7: OS Details and Two New Phones

WP7The Windows Phone OS is finally coming out in September, but what does it really mean for the smart phone industry?

Unlike the older Windows Mobile OS, the new WP7 platform is made for the general user. In order to keep supporting their business clients, Microsoft has promised that they would continue to develop and update the older platform. In fact, it has been hinted that once WP7 launches, the older OS will be named Windows Phone Classis –establishing their made-for-business OS series.

In the meanwhile, Windows Phone 7 is heavily focused on social networking, media sharing, games and connectivity. The new user interface, customizable tiles and inter-layered menus are all designed to make give a new smart phone experience for users. For years, smart phone users have been used to simply task switching. With the WP7 OS, all tasks are interconnected –provided that there are functions in between.

An example of this would be the contact list, if an entry has an address, the user may choose to instantly look up the address on Bing and get a map result. This can be done by firs accessing the contacts page and directly use the Bing and Map apps –without having to return to the menu.

The OS is going to be made available this September. According to reports, two new devices have been added to the list of upcoming WP7 devices: the Nokia E7 and the HTC Gold.

HTC’s Gold smart phone is the same device as the HTC Mondrian. While little has been made known about the handset, it has been stated that the Gold will have a 1.2 GHz CPU, making the device one of the most powerful WP7 devices to be launched, which is no less than you’d expect from the developers of powerful Android devices like the HTC Desire and the Nexus One.

The Nokia E7 on the other hand, is a like a wide version of the N97. The keyboard and fold-ion form factor is bound to get plenty of interested users as the setup is perfect for those who tend to write long messages or often use Microsoft’s Office Mobile apps.
