According to reports, T-Mobile UK has announced that they will be offering the Nokia N8 smart phone when it launches and they have just opened up pre-registration slots for the handset. T-Mobile users who are planning to switch to this brand new smart phone might want to go to the official T-Mobile website and register online.
Other local mobile network operators have not made a specific announcement on when the device would be available, but Vodafone UK has already announced that they would be offering the handset to buyers next week.
The Nokia N8 is the first and currently only Symbian^3 smart phone in the works. So far, no other handset has been announced to be using the new OS. This might be attributed to the fact that the Symbian foundation is already working on the Symbian^4 operating system, which makes the “third” as a transition version of the mobile platform.
Just recently, the Symbian^4 was leaked in a series of images that showed the new system’s official code running on an emulator. With this, it is expected that the fourth will be released sometime by the end of the year.
Nokia is also partially to blame for the lack of publicity for the N8 handset. With the upcoming Nokia N9 smart phone running on the MeeGo operating system (which is the work of Nokia and Intel), it is not surprise that people are passing off the N8.
This sole, Symbian^3 N-series handset however, has a few good features of its own. The device comes with a 12 mega pixel camera, 720p HD video recording capabilities, Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash. The screen is a 3.5 inch TFT capacitive touch screen display with an accelerometer, proximity sensor and a scratch resistant coating. Lastly, the device runs on an ARM 11 CPU running at 680 MHz.
