The iPhone 4 may have topped the charts when it comes to launch day sales, but it sure is not immune to receiving flak about its underlying tech issues. That being said, a surprising move by Nokia had many Apple fans scratching their heads in disbelief. Contrary to what Steve Jobs said about signal degradation when you accidentally cover a unit’s antenna, Nokia mobile phones seem to be just fine any way you hold it. In fact, the Finnish mobile phone giant demonstrated five grips that will not cause any signal losses on any of the billions of Nokia mobile devices out in the market.
“We’ve found any of the four grips mentioned above to be both comfortable and as you can see, offer no signal degradation whatsoever. This isn’t a feature you’ll only find on high-end Nokia devices either. It’s something that’s been a part of pretty much every Nokia device ever made.”
The grips have humorous names such as “The Thumb and Finger” and “The Four Edge”. Nokia has also made sure to include a plug about how they design their mobile phones. Logically speaking, calling is a default feature of a handset so that means an antenna is one of its vital parts. Nokia has then focused on perfecting antenna placement to give users freedom to choose how they want to hold their phones.
While it may seem like all fun and games, it may not be long before Apple returns fire. After all, Steve Jobs’ statement that most mobile phones have some sort of Achilles heel when it comes to signal reception was just brushed off by Nokia and good old Steve is not really known for his great sense of humor. The iPhone 4 does not look like it will lose sales any time soon, but at least the interaction between mobile phone manufacturers is amusing, to say the least.
