One of the biggest problems for recent devices in the Nokia N series is the launch date. For some reason, Nokia is unable to keep up with some of the key schedules that they have set up for their phones. While the N900 Maemo smart phone was released on time, the same cannot be said for the N97. The handset came out about ten whole months after the scheduled release date –and even after such a major delay, the firmware still ended being very unstable.
The upcoming Nokia N8 is also getting bogged down by a similar delay. While the difference between April and July is not too far off, the delay is still bad news for the Symbian^3 smart phone. After all, the MeeGo based Nokia N9 is due to come out in the next few months. This is the very reason why we hear so little about the N8 smart pone –because the attention is elsewhere.
Of course, we also have to point out the fact that a July launch for the N8 is also tentative. Despite earlier announcements that the handset might be arriving on Vodafone by next week, there is still no official announcement from Nokia directly. This still leaves the device due to a launch date “soon”.
Beyond the confusing launch date and the impending release of the N9, the N8 Symbian smart phone is actually a pretty decent handset. The device focuses heavily on multimedia functions. The camera is an impressive 12 mega pixel snapper that comes with Carl Zeiss lenses and Xenon flash (Nokia’s favorite camera combination) and it also records videos in 720p HD quality.
Media playback can be done on the device itself, on its 3.5 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen display. Users can also choose to make use of the mini HDMI output port for viewing content on a larger display.
