Nokia E5 – A Mid-Range Mobile Phone Fit for High-End Business Users

Nokia E5The world’s leading mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia, announced recently its newest addition to its E Series line, the Nokia E5 mobile phone. The E5 is a mid-range mobile handset in a slab form factor which has a full QWERTY keyboard up front and is a direct continuation of what Nokia earlier in the previously released Nokia E71 and E63 models.

Not necessarily only for business users

The E5 mobile phone is particularly designed with the business user in mind, who will also want to use the device for personal purposes. Nokia has made a strong strategic sales move by choosing this particular target group as business persons not only use their mobile device for business purposes alone but for diverse other reasons as well. One of the obvious factors which point to the E5 as a business phone is the fact that users can conveniently and easily create up to ten email accounts with the device.

The E5 mobile phone will run the popular Symbian OS v9.3, Series 60 rel. 3.2 along with a S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and will be powered by an efficient ARM 11 600 MHz mobile processor. It will ship with a 5 megapixel digital camera, full network connectivity, built-in GPS support and 256 MB of internal RAM. The E5 mobile handset is the first in a series of Symbian-powered Nokia phones which will have this particular combination.

Nokia E5 (4)The E5 mobile phone will also come with an all-inclusive suite of social messaging applications, as well as email, instant messaging and social networking support. If you lose your way, for whatever reason, you can let the phone’s A-GPS capability point you towards the right direction with Ovi Maps, Nokia’s free mobile navigation solution.

Connectivity and multimedia

Without a doubt, speed is always an essential element in mobile phones. Many of today’s mobile software applications get heavier and more complex, including the data which are being transferred back and forth.

The new Nokia E5 mobile phone supports 2G network (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) as well as 3G network access (HSDPA 10.2 Mbps and HSUPA 2.0 Mbps). It will access the internet through both Class 32 EDGE and GPRS connections as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, UPnP & DLNA technology. This will come handy in wireless local area networks or just to keep in touch whilst on the move. Date transfer is enabled by both Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP ann microUSB v2.0.

The E5 mobile handset has a dimension of 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm, 75 cc and weighs in at 126 g. The phone sports a 2.4-inch TFT matrix screen which runs at 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The bright display is immediately above the phone’s D-Pad and QWERTY keyboard.

The matrix screen is capable of reproducing up to 250,000 colours at a pretty fair resolution. The display, whilst not that big, provide clear and crisp images which makes it easy enough for reading emails or browsing the web. The Menu, Home and Contact buttons are easy to access just beneath the E5 mobile phone’s display. The front-facing QWERTY keypads are tactile and responsive to the slightest touch, which makes it ideal for typing long documents and messages.

Nokia E5 (3)If you like to preserve memorable events, the Nokia E5 mobile phone is equipped with a 5 megapixel fixed-focus digital camera. It comes with an LED flash and allows users to record VGA-quality video at 15 fps. The E5’s multimedia capabilities are demonstrated through its pre-installed versatile media player.

The player is capable of playing back different multimedia file formats such as MP4, H.264, H.263 and WMV for video and MP3, WAV, WMA and eAAC+ for audio. The E5 handset also comes with a stereo FM radio with RDS which can be enjoyed through the phone’s 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones or through its built-in speakerphone.

Battery and memory power

Chances are, every business user is nearly always a member of some form of social networking website such as LinkedIn. The E5 mobile phone has dedicated applications which will allow users to access their favourite social networking sites and update their personal and business contacts by posting their most recent status.

The mobile phone is fired up by a Li-Ion 1200 mAh (BL-4D) standard battery which the Finnish mobile phone giant claims can go for up to nearly 6 hours of talk time in 3G mode and up to 8.5 hours of talk time if used in the GSM mode. Standby time is 705 hours on both 3G and GSM, which translates to nearly a month. The E5 mobile phone’s long-life battery can play your music collection non-stop for 38 straight hours on a single charge.

The new Nokia E5 mobile phone comes out of the box pre-loaded with 250 MB of internal memory and a microSD memory expansion card with 2 GB of storage memory. If you are the type of user who needs to bring your huge music collection with you on the road, then the phone will allow you to increase your storage memory to provide more room for your huge multimedia collection via its micro SD card slot.

Nokia E5 (2)The E5 likewise supports memory expansion through microSDHC to increase memory capacity up to a maximum of 32 GB. With all of today’s heavy software programs, social networking connection, business applications and multimedia downloads or collections, large storage space becomes a premium and is now considered a necessity rather than an option in mobile handsets.

The highly-anticipated E5 mobile phone is scheduled to be released in the third quarter of 2010. It will be available in a variety of striking colours which include Chalk White, Carbon Black, Sky Blue, Silver Grey, and Copper Brown.

The phone’s price is around £150 before taxes and subsidies, and comes with some great talk plans with Nokia E5 deals from online retailers. To get more opinions on this new phone please visit the Nokia E5 reviews page, where you can also leave your own thoughts.
