Finnish mobile communications giant Nokia has just recently released its latest touchscreen smartphone, the Nokia C6. This second installment in Nokia’s C Series looks much like a pared-down version of the N97. Its side-sliding QWERTY keyboard makes text input and messaging a less cumbersome task. With high-end features such as a generous touchscreen, a 5 MP camera, Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery, 3G, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and social networking support, the C6 is a well-rounded smartphone that is affordably priced.
The C6 smartphone almost looks like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97 mini in design, all built with the same high quality material. Most of the phone’s primo real estate lies on its touchscreen display at the front panel. The device measures 113 x 53 x 16.8 mm, 80 cc and weighs in at a somewhat hefty 150 g. Available in black and white colours, the phone is solidly-built and fits snugly on your hand.
Prime piece of mobile real estate
The C6 smartphone boasts a 3.2-inch TFT resistive touchscreen running 16 million colours at 360 x 640 pixels resolution. The display comes with a proximity sensor which automatically decreases the ringing volume as the user approaches the phone. It also has an accelerometer which automatically rotates the display’s user interface as the phone changes its orientation, from landscape to portrait mode, for instance.
Unlike typical resistive displays, the C6’s touchscreen has a quicker response time. The ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness and contrast to adapt to the existing light condition. The screen provides clear and vivid images even under bright sunlight.
Users who do a lot of text messaging will appreciate the phone’s fully backlit side-sliding QWERTY keyboard. The characters are easy to see and the keys are touch-sensitive. Apart from the slide-out physical keyboard, an alphanumeric keyboard version is available on the phone’s screen both in portrait and landscape modes.
The Nokia C6 smartphone runs on the Symbian Operating System v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5 and has a fast and efficient ARM 11 434 MHz mobile processor beating at its core. In an industry slowly being dominated by Android OS, the Symbian is still pretty much in use in a lot of Nokia mobile phones for its reliability.
The C6 smartphone is by a standard Li-Ion 1200 mAh (BL-4J) battery. It has a battery life of up to 384 hours on standby and 7 hours of talk time. It can play all your favourite music for 30 hours non-stop on a single charge.
