More Symbian Smart Phones for Nokia’s N-Series

nokia_n8Earlier, Nokia announced that the N-series mobile phones will be fully adopting the MeeGo operating system. However, it seems that the new head of mobile solutions for the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer has other things on his agenda.

According to a recent blog post by Anssi Vanjoki, who recently took the new post at Espoo, he sees many great things with the Nokia N8 (which he claims is going to “surprise people with power and speed”). This faith in the upcoming Symbian operating system is further pushed by his statement that the Nokia N8 being the only Symbian^3 device, he cannot say the same for the upcoming Symbian^4.

His statement still leaves the upcoming Nokia N9 in a form of label-limbo as the handset is still not getting a finalized designation.

As for the upcoming MeeGo operating system, it appears that Anssi is very pleased with how the platform is turning out to be and is excited for the launch of the new Intel and Nokia made operating system this coming October.

The Symbian OS has long been a standard platform used by Nokia in many of its smart phones. Last year, it was believed that the Maemo operating system (Nokia’s proprietary OS) would be replacing the Symbian as Nokia’s N-series standard. The announcement came right with the release of the N900 –the first Maemo smart phone. This decision was cut short after Nokia’s development group teamed up with Intel to create the MeeGo OS (at that time, Intel was developing the Linux based Moblin OS).

Until the release of the Symbian^4, Nokia is expected to be releasing plenty of new Symbian based mobile phone on their other successful series such as the C series, E series and X series handsets. Many expect that currently leaked Nokia N9 to be renamed and designated to any of the above mentioned lineups.
