It is not a common sight to see an impressive high end smart phone being available as a SIM free handset. Usually the only way to get one is to go for a contract from one of the many network operators. As convenient as having a nice monthly data and call minute allowance per month may be, there are also plenty of people who want full control with their mobile phones.
The Dell Streak is an impressive piece of technology. Despite the fact that Dell is pretty infamous for their bad reputation in the computer industry, they seem to have managed to strike gold with the Dell Mini 5 or Dell Streak as we know it. The phone delivers the full Android smart phone experience, an impressive set of hardware specs and best of all, a large 5 inch capacitive touch screen.
The resolution still remains the same standard 480 x 800 pixels we see on other high end Android devices, but with that additional screen size, it is much easier to appreciate the impressive user interface of the Android OS (as well as the graphic quality of the apps and features). Anyone who has tried accessing Google Earth on the 5 inch touch screen will tell you that the larger screen size certainly changes the way we look at things.
The processor is a high speed Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz CPU. It provides enough speed to run resource intensive apps and of course, HD content. Speaking of HD, the handset also packs in an additional HDMI output port (which is packed in with the phone).
The camera is a modest 5 mega pixel snapper –pretty much par for the course when compared to the HTC Desire and the Nexus One. It also offers dual LED flash, autofocus, face and smile detection, and geo tagging support.
