New 2G Sony Handset is a Walkman Device

Sony-Ericsson-YendoThere is no doubt that the tech industry misses Sony’s Walkman technology, as every gadget that comes out with it becomes the object of attention. Even the newly announced Yendo (which was mistakenly rumored as an Android smart phone) is getting plenty of coverage thanks to its Walkman features.

As one would expect, this super lightweight mobile phone delivers a superior music listening experience. The device support s a good range of music file formats and comes with TrackID recognition, the shake control, SensMe and of course, the standard Sony Walkman player. It is also reported that the device would have integrated social networking features, though it is not yet known if users will be able to share or upload current playlist information and similar content –though the device’s lack of WiFi and 3G support makes this unlikely. The device also features an FM radio with RDS.

According to initial spec reports, the device will have about 5 MB of internal memory, which means that users will have to rely on a microSD card (the device will support cards of up to 16GB capacities).

The phone comes with a 2.6 inch TFT resistive touch screen display, making the Sony Ericsson Yendo the very first full touch Walkman mobile phone to ever be released. With a screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, watching H.264 and MP4 videos is easy.

As a music device, the Yendo is very light. It has a weight of 81 grams and will hang on your neck or stay in your pocket without becoming too noticeable. Since it can support microSD cards, you can bring along several music libraries without worrying about running out of tracks to listen to (a single 16GB card alone can hold thousands of tracks). No details have been released about the battery, but users can expect a standard SE battery with at least 900mAh –more than enough to keep the music playing for a whole day.
