Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro Review

Samsung Wave 2 ProAfter the success of their original Wave phone that was the first mobile to feature the new Bada operating system, Samsung have released two new Smartphone’s that they hope will follow on from the Wave’s accomplishments. The Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro is essentially marketed as a cheaper option to the original Wave and is an entry mobile into the new Bada OS. You can have your own say on this new phone in the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro reviews section.

It must be first noted that the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro is not designed to be the successor to the Samsung Wave therefore it comes as no surprise that some it its features have been decreased in ability. For example the 5 mega pixel camera that was found on the original Wave phone has been reduced to a 3 mega pixel camera on the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro. However the main plus of the new Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro is the addition to a slide out QWERTY keypad. While touch screens have really grown in popularity in recent years and do provide the opportunity to reduce the overall size of the phone will still having a large screen, they can become cumbersome and difficult to type long messages or emails – hence the welcomed addition of a QWERTY keypad. The keyboard itself is smart and has big enough keys in which to type comfortably without significantly adding to the overall dimensions of the phone.

Indeed the fact that the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro, and the original Wave, were very much social networking orientated then the addition of a QWERTY keyboard is a step in the right direction. Bada’s ‘social hub’ means that you can access all your social networking and communications – whether that be Twitter, Myspace, Facebook or just plan email – without difficulty and typing long messages will be even easier given the QWERTY keypad. Although one does wonder why 3G has been omitted from the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro. For sure it is a budget phone designed to allow those who can’t normally afford a Smartphone the chance to own one; however in a phone that is very much designed to be used to connect over the internet the omission of 3G is baffling. Of course the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro supports Wi-Fi – as do most Smartphone’s these days – however if you find yourself in a location where you do not have access to wireless internet then any social communicating or basic web browsing will be rather sluggish. But we do have to remember that the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro is aimed at being a budget Smartphone, not a high end model.

Samsung Wave 2In regards to other features, the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro can be expanded to hold up to 16 GB of memory. If you consider that it also supports mp3 playback and has a 3.5 mm audio jack then the possibility of using the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro as an mp3 player are entirely conceivable. At 16 GB it isn’t going to hold millions of songs but 16 GB is currently the capacity of the iPod Nano range that is so popular; so unless you want thousands of tunes on demand then the possibility of using the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro as an mp3 player are increased.

Also through the Bada operating system you will be able to have full access to the wonderful world of Samsung apps. While, at the moment anyway, they are not as extensive and far reaching as the apps for the iPhone they are still numerous in number. From betting apps like Betfair to GPS related applications, the average user will find that the Samsung App Store can cater for every need. It remains to be seen however, how far the Samsung Apps will develop in terms of rivaling that of the iPhone although with Samsung clearly eager to propel its Bada system to the forefront of the mobile phone market then there seems no reason why it cannot, if not be on the same level as Apple, at least offer a reasonable and realistic alternative.

Something that is lacking in the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro, and we must still remember that is this after all, a budget phone, is the ability to multi task. The TouchWiz 3.0 UI that is used on both the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro and Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro doesn’t support this feature and it will be interesting to see if Samsung begin to incorporate this into their future Bada run mobiles.

Samsung Wave 2 (2)So in light of these specifications what can we conclude from the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro? Well when viewing it we have to keep in mind that it isn’t designed to be a high-end Smartphone to rival the likes of the HTC Desire; nor is it even the successor to the Samsung Wave. Of course it shares similar characteristics however the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro is meant to be a cheaper alternative, not a replacement. The fact that it is aimed at the Russian and South-East Asia markets would further confirm this as they are regions where the average person isn’t going to spend a bundle on a new mobile phone. So with this taken into consideration, the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro is actually quite a smart mobile. The QWERTY keyboard undoubtedly helps given that much of this phone usage will be centered around keeping in contact with friends and family through social media however the lack of 3G whenever a wireless internet connected is not available is certainly as let down. A decent camera, access to the wide ranging and developmental Samsung App Store as well as the option of using the phone as a secondary mp3 player given that it can hold up to 16 GB of data and has a 3.5 mm audio jack port then opportunity to have a mobile/music player all in one is definitely there.

There is no release scheduled for the Samsung Wave 2 S5330 Pro in the UK however if Samsung are serious about Bada being one of the mainstream operating systems on mobile phones then releasing this budget end Smartphone onto the UK market with Samsung Wave 2 Pro S5330 deals is worth some consideration.
