Motorola surprised the tech industry with the announcement of the Motorola XT 720 Milestone (also known as the Motorola Motoroi). While we have already seen the name pop up in a few rumors here and there, it was not until a couple of days ago before the handset was actually seen.
Anyway, it is hard to say whether we are really impressed with this new Android smart phone. The device still remains true to the look of the original Milestone –so that is a definite positive, but the fact that it now does without the slide out keyboard is a bit of user-based preference. Anyone who does not use a keyboard would certainly enjoy the new slim shape –but being able to type out long messages and emails fast on a keyboard can be too big or a compromise for other users.
In exchange for the keyboard, the XT 720 offers users a more video focused handset. The device’s camera has been upgraded from 5 mega pixels to 8 mega pixels, and video recording capabilities have been increased to include 720p HD recording. Overall, it’s a pretty sweet deal for users who love their camera phones. The HDMI output port is a big joy for anyone who loves to show off their latest videos on a larger screen. Overall, media fans will certainly be giving this handset a thumbs-up.
On the other hand, the lack of the keyboard changes the phone’s overall look. While not noticeable when looking at the handset from the front, it is quite obvious from the side. And this change is most noticeable when it comes down to typing –after all, no virtual on screen keyboard would ever be a match for a physical one.
Retailer eXpansys has confirmed that they are launching the new Motorola handset this coming July 2.
