First we had the classic mobile phone, and then the flip phone then along came the slide phone. As the features on these mobiles have expanded at a rapid rate over the last decade or so, the design have followed suit. A mobile phone is no longer a piece of technology that provides communication almost anywhere on the planet; it is also designed to be a fashion statement. So enter the Motorola Flipout.
A tiny little phone, the Motorola Flipout is curious in that far from ‘sliding’ or ‘flipping’ in the traditional sense it pivots around the corner of the phone to desperate the screen for the keypad. Closed it is square and is certainly unique in this regard. It is worth nothing here that the keypad can get a little cramped at times – as the phone itself is just 67 x 67 x 17 mm – however it is not overly difficult and, no doubt, will be easy over time and continued use. Although the point should be made that if you are intending to use your phone excessively then the Motorola Flipout may perhaps be a little small if your intention is to send tons of text messages or emails per day from it. You can leave your own viewpoint on the Motorola Flipout on the Motorola Flipout reviews page.
However it is perhaps in the software that the Motorola Flipout really excels. Motoblur latches onto the social networking phenomenon with zeal. For Motoblur will provide continuous and live feed updates of all goings on in your Facebook and Twitter networks. The Motorola Flipout isn’t just a pretty phone it is also a social networking device that was created with the modern, ‘Facebook Generation’ in mind.
Motoblur doesn’t just stop here though but rather it extends onto the whole functionality of the mobile. A useful feature of Motoblur is its ability to customize the battery on the Motorola Flipout. Much in the same way you can do with just about every laptop or netbook, the batter on the Motorola Flipout can be personalized to suit your needs and therefore to extend its life before it needs to be charged up. Motoblur is always useful on the home screen and you can have up to 7 different home screens on the go with the ability to just drag and drop different widgets onto them. The display area itself comes in at just under 3 inches – 2.8 to be exact – and has a 320 x 240 resolution. This gives you a sense of the size of the phone. Furthermore Motoblur also keeps track of your data usage. This applies to internet data and can be a absolutely vital piece of information if your network restricts how much data you are allowed a month, or rather, how much data is free. With the Motoblur data usage indicator you can be sure when you are reaching your limit and avoid any unnecessary or unexpected costs.
In terms of its entertainment features the Motorola Flipout can boast a 3 mega-pixel camera which is not the best on the market – far from it – but is certainly not the worst and unless you are planning to take hundreds of photographs then it is sufficient for the odd picture on a night out. The big downside here is that the Motorola Flipout camera doesn’t have a flash option although it does support video capturing and playback and the ability to ‘tag’ your photographs before they are uploaded. A decent image editing suite is another welcome addition that can be used to ‘touch up’ any images before they are sent to your social networking profile. Another upside is that it has the ability to hold up to 32 GB’s of memory and with its capability of mp3 playback the Motorola Flipout can be used as a quite useful mp3 player. Indeed the phone comes with 2gb of memory in the form of a microSD card straight from the box so it is raring to go to hold a few music files without the need to splash out on a new memory card.
The phone runs on the Android 2.1 OS which gives you instant access to thousands of apps available on the Android Marketplace. While it might not quite be as extensive and trendy as ‘iPhone apps’ there are still thousand there that can suit your every need. Moreover, Android 2.1 gives you instant access to several Google features such as search, Google Maps and gmail. The fact that the Motorola Flipout supports 3g and Wi-Fi means that basic internet and social networking usage should be fast and efficient.
The battery itself is quite small and this is hardly a shock revelation considering the size of the mobile so only expect about 3.5 hours, maybe 4 at a push, of talk time before it will need to be charged up. Although this is maybe a small price to pay for having such a compact and smart little phone.
The Motorola Flipout is designed for the new generation of mobile phone users who are much more interested in having a mobile that is trendy, chic and cool. The sqaure design coupled with the ‘pivotal’ nature of its expansion means that the Motorola Flipout fits into this category. However this is not to say that the phone itself is merely a design and fashion orientated device with little or no practical use. The Motorola Flipout is a powerful social networking tool that allows the user to constantly keep up to date with their friends and families goings on. The browers is lightweight but efficient and will display most basic webpages with ease. The Motoblur software is the reason behind this phone’s marketability and provides the user with countless ways in which to customize and edit the basic features of the phone. It is also being said that the Motorola Flipout will have several custom colors in which you can change the cover to suit your mood.
Marketed at the budget end of the scale, the Motorola Flipout should do well in appealing to those who wants a trendy and fashionable phone for basic use. We are looking forward to some very tasty Motorola Flipout deals to be released very soon.
