Motorola Brings the XT 720 Milestone

Motorola-XT720This is not the original Motorola Milestone we all knew and loved. Gone is the impressive slide out QWERTY keyboard, now we get a snazzy 8 mega pixel camera and 720p video recording, as well as an HDMI port so that the videos can be played back on a HDTV set or on a compatible computer.

Overall, the decision to come out with a new media oriented version of the Milestone is interesting, though it certainly makes for many disappointed fans who expecting another QWERTY loaded Android. As it is, the smart phone market is already full of basic touch screen devices, and the 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touch screen on the Milestone offers very little as compared to other devices (though it is slightly larger than the average 3.3 inch touch screens for many mid range devices).

So is the new Milestone worth it? The XT 720 is made specifically for people who love their videos. In other cases, most users will still get more functionality from the older Milestone, despite the lack of the better camera. The older device has a 5 mega pixel camera which is pretty much more than enough for basic photo sharing online.

On the other hand, media buffs and movie fans will certainly enjoy having a slimmer handset with plenty of good video capabilities, the 720p recording even allows for HD capturing of very important moments.

The ARM Cortex A8 processor is running at 600MHz, it is fast enough to handle many of the basic apps that Android fans use, but many suspect that any Android handset running at less than 1GHz would have issues with browsing Flash content (which version 2.2 of Android will be compatible with).

The last twist from Motorola is that this device will not be using the Motoblur user interface –which is not really a loss when you prefer to use the original Android interface.
