There’s a new Milestone coming and this is not the same DROID that you are looking for.
In some ways, one might say that that the new Milestone has taken away one of the biggest features of the original handset: the slide out QWERTY keyboard. Despite the fact that the XT 720 retains all the hardware of the previous device (and also upgrades the camera), the missing keyboard is one element that many people cannot seem to be okay with.
This is actually pretty understandable –after all, the reason why the Milestone was so successful in the first place is because it was one of the first Android handsets that actually came with a keyboard. This is, of course, a major issue for many users who feel that a virtual onscreen keyboard is not really fun to use when it comes to typing long messages.
While a user might not mind typing in a quick tweet on a touch screen, typing longer messages without actual tactile feedback can get uncomfortable, and a keyboard allows users to type faster as well.
At the same, there are plenty to see the new form of the XT 720: the device is significantly slimmer and in some ways, more futuristic to look at (while there are some who like the heavy bulky look of the one with a keyboard). Despite losing the extra bulk, the device still keeps all the hardware of the original and brings in an 8 mega pixel camera, HD 720 video recording and an HDMI output port.
Now, Motorola fans get to choose between a handset with a great keyboard and one that is geared more towards media playback. It is a win-win situation as users will get a great smart phone either way, and all it boils down to is what the end user prefers to have.
