How Smart Phone Technology is Changing the Way We Live

mobile-internetMobile phones are generally used for making phone calls, handling SMS and having a handy digital address book and organizer in your pocket. With the arrival of smart phone technology from developers like Apple, Samsung and HTC and better wireless networks, there is an additional resource that can now be accessed by mobile phones –the internet.

Sure, 2G devices have GPRS and EDGE, and most phones have email functions. But overall, nothing beats being able to connect to a WiFi hotspot or a 3G network with your Apple iPhone 4 or Samsung Galaxy S and get everything you need online instantly. Before, web access was tied down to a desktop computer. While the arrival of smaller, more energy efficient netbooks made the net more accessible, users were still limited to battery life, needing tables and chair and most importantly, having a network to hook up to.

Today’s modern 3G smart phones are not limited by these factors. As long as you have coverage from your network and charge in your battery, then the internet is at your fingertips.

Nowadays, simple things like checking one’s email or viewing the latest blog update is simply a matter of moments. No need for long boot times or opening a slow browser, smart phones will let you connect instantly, and when you are done, there is no need to completely shut off the device.

What would usually take a person a couple of hours each night checking and reading on the internet can be done while commuting, or during downtime at work, during breaks at school. Online activities such as social networking are seeing more users thanks to faster and easier access to the web.

And the internet is not the only function that modern smart phones give. Services such as maps, app stores, the new augmented reality functions provide users with useful and up to date information on the spot.
