Samsung Galaxy S on Vodafone: No Chrome But Still Impressive

Samsung Galaxy S (1)It appears that Vodafone’s web folks have been a little too hasty and excited in announcing that they would be offering the next generation handset from the Korean mobile phone manufacturer, Samsung.

According to the website, the new Android smart phone will be loaded with a mobile version of the Google Chrome browser; a pretty exciting thought, but a statement that has been taken down due to the fact that it is not real. Still, despite not having the Chrome browser, this Android handset is still a pretty impressive device.

The phone comes with massive 4 inch super AMOLED touch screen display. Yep, the same high-end display technology that was featured in the Samsung Wave smart phone (the one that uses the Bada operating system). In fact, this screen is even bigger: the Wave only had a 3.3 inch screen. In terms of touch performance, the screen is as responsive and as accurate as the run of the mill AMOLED screen. But in terms of graphic quality, the amount of details and depth that the screen can deliver is unparalleled.

The phone also comes with the Android 2.1 operating system, though it is expected to get a quick update to version 2.2 Froyo when it comes out in the next couple of months as well as 2.2’s native support for Flash and AIR content. Samsung fans will be happy to know that the TouchWiz user interface will still be used in the device –customized to fit in all the new features.

Aside from the TouchWiz UI, Samsung also brought in some manufacturer-only features such as SmartLife, ThinkFree, the Samsung Social Hub and several other cool features. The phone also comes with 16GB of internal memory (it also supports SD cards) and a 5 mega pixel snapper for taking images and videos.
