Phone names can be misleading, and in the case of Motorola’s latest Android handset, one has to wonder what exactly flips with the Motorola FLIPOUT.
The phone comes in a tightly packed square-ish form that looks impressively small. The 2.8 inch touch screen display takes up most of the space on the face of the device but users can ‘spin’ out a slider QWERTY keyboard for typing out long messages and emails. Anyway, aside from the phone’s misleading name, the rest of the device is actually pretty handy and like its visual appearance, quite impressive.
As stated, the phone comes with a 2.8 inch touch screen display. It has an accelerometer so that users can view the screen in any orientation they prefer. The phone’s QWERTY keyboard is a little cramped with its square-ish layout, but thanks to the well angled buttons, it is almost as efficient as typing on a BlackBerry portrait keyboard.
The phone also comes with a 3 mega pixel snapper that uses Kodak technology and has 256MB of internal storage for use. Users need not worry about storage space as the phone supports SD cards of up to 32GB in capacity. This also means that storing and backing up data and media content is as easy as swapping out the cards.
The 700MHz TI OMAP CPU is able to deliver a very impressive and fast Android user experience though there is some wonder if it will be able to handle some of the heavier Flash contents on the internet. Since the phone comes with the 2.1 Android OS, it is expected to be among the first to receive the upcoming 2.2 update with native Flash and AIR support.
There are conflicting reports as to whether the device would actually support 3G and WiFi access though these features should be expected from all smart phones at this point in time.
