According to Sanjay Jha, CEO of Motorola, the company is currently closely working with Google in order to develop the very next Google Phone. In the past few weeks since the release of the Nexus One, there have been reports and rumors of an upcoming Google Phone to follow the first one.
It was not long before reports pointed to Motorola, the company has had a good history with Google and the Android operating system and they are the first to release an Android 2.0 phone the Milestone (DROID in the US). Along with news that the next device would be a keyboard toting phone, it was natural that many turned their eyes to Motorola as the most probable company to be tagging up with Google.
While many people are calling the upcoming device Nexus Two, it is still unsure as to whether Google will continue using the name. Recently, the Dick Estate has taken action against the use of the Nexus One brand for the Google phone, stating that the estate of the author of “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” has not been asked permission to use the brand.
Nexus Two or not, it is certain that Motorola will be the company behind this ambitious project. Despite the Google Phone’s high profile, it is not performing well in terms of sales (only 10,000 units sold in the first week). Reports and rumors are pointing at the Motorola Shadow as the most likely candidate for the next device since it will pack really powerful hardware, a physical keyboard and of course, that unique Motorola style. Some are expecting that the second Nexus Phone would at least be similar to the Shadow (much like the HTC Bravo and the Google Nexus One).
