Verizon to Release the Samsung Omnia II

Samsung Omnia 2 i8000 (1)Verizon will be carrying the Samsung Omnia II. The phone will be made available starting on December 2, 2009 for all Verizon subscribers. The Omnia II will go head to head with the HTC HD2 and the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 as the top devices that uses the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system.

WinMo 6.5 Professional brings the new application store to all WinMo users. Previous users of the OS may recall the lack of an app store since forever. With the launch of version 6.5, Microsoft also launched the Marketplace. It has been a month since the Marketplace has been around and it has been updated to support versions 6.0 and 6.1 of WinMo as well as for desktop computer access.  The latest update of the Marketplace has put in anti-piracy measures for applications.

The Samsung Omnia II sports more than the new WinMo OS, it also comes with an impressive 5 mega pixel camera –perfect for high res photos and quick videos. The auto focus is always a useful feature particularly when taking snap shots. As one would expect of any high end 3G phone, the Omnia II has Bluetooth, WiFi, micro USB and micro SD support.

The Omnia II also has a nice 8GB of internal storage, giving users ample space to store much need apps and files. For features, the phone uses the now famous TouchWiz interface and a series of applications for Facebook, Myspace, Youtube.

The tie-up with Verizon also brings some unique carrier based exclusive features such as the V-Cast services; these include video on demand, music on rhapsody, song ID, visual voice mail, VZW tones, navigator, mobile IM and email.

The Samsung Omnia II will be available under Verizon for 199.99 USD after signing a two year contract and a mail-in rebate.
