Nokia Launches New Nokia 2720 Fold

Thursday, June 25th, 2009
Nokia-2720-foldExpected to come out anytime between July and September of this year, the Nokia 2720 Fold is another affordable Nokia mobile that is quite functional. Set for a lunch price of less than £50, the 2720 Fold is a practical handset that has a very reasonable price tag.

A Quick Peek
As the name implies the 2720 Fold is a flip phone that also has a secondary external monochrome display. The main screen on the inside is a 1.8-inch TFT display with a 120 x 160-pixel resolution. It is also a lightweight mobile at only 90.3 g. The 2720 is a dual-band 2G handset that also has GPRS, EDGE, HSCSD, and Bluetooth support. It however does not have any WLAN or 3G capabilities. Once it is released it will come in two colours: deep red and black.

Looking Deeper
Much like the Nokia 2760 and the Nokia 2700 classic, the 2720 too is a purely functional mobile. There’s nothing fancy with it and its features are more straightforward. It has a 32MB internal memory but does not have an external memory card slot. Although its camera is capable of taking videos, the quality of photographs is mediocre as the camera is only at 1.3 Megapixels.

However, users will find all the basic functionalities of a mobile phone on the 2720 such as SMS, MMS, and Email capabilities. Aside from a WAP 2.0 xHTML web browser, the 2720 also comes with an FM radio, Java capabilities, and a couple of built-in games.

The battery life of the Nokia 2720 Fold is quite impressive as it will last up to 432 hours of standby time and up to 5 hours of talk time.

Although this mobile may not have top of the line features, it’s actually quite a bargain at only £50. For those who are looking for a purely functional mobile without the complicated and confusing features, you’ve found your match in the Nokia 2720 Fold.

Apple iPhone 3G S With Additional Features

Thursday, June 25th, 2009
Applie-iPhone-3GSThe iPhone, even after almost three years of its announcement, continues to engender a lot of excitement, long lines as well as larger share in the mobile phone market. With the approaching second anniversary of the Apple iPhone, there is a new model on the offering. The Apple iPhone 3G S will be available in the stores from the third week of June. This gadget promises quicker processing and better network speeds as well as a longer battery life, with some other added features.

iPhone-3GSThe question is why should one purchase it? This will also be based on the price one will have to disburse for this new mobile phone. In case you are one of those people who have been looking forward to the new and better model, you can go for it now. It is like people who had an iPhone Classic did not go for iPhone 3G immediately. If you can afford to upgrade your handset, it is expected to coat around GBP120 to GBP 170. If you already have an iPhone 3G, from Apple, you can upgrade it to the latest operating system, the iPhone OS 3.0. The iPhone 3G S brings, some new features but it may not be worth spending 170 pounds.

This new mobile device, iPhone 3G S is similar in appearance to the earlier model. It has the same outside controls and shape, yet the iPhone 3G S is exceptional in many ways. The display of the phone is coated with oleophobic which is resistant to fingerprint and will decrease the chances of stains and fingerprints. The size of this mobile phone is same like the iPhone 3G, only it is a little heavier.

This new model is designed with several well liked features of the mobile handset like video recording, voice dialing and multimedia messaging. On the other hand the call quality of the iPhone 3G S has not improved and the signal received is still uneven. iPhone 3G S still does not have multitasking facilities, Flash Lite or USB transfer.

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
The Green Initiative

Sony-Ericsson-NaiteThe upcoming Sony Ericsson Naite GreenHeart is part of the company’s new initiative to reduce their CO2 emissions by 20% come 2015. Moreover they also want to reduce the company’s emission of greenhouse gas by 15%. As a sign of their commitment to this cause the company has released two new eco-friendly devices that aim to help save the environment—welcome the Naite and the Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart.

The Naite’s Role

The Naite will play a crucial role in Sony Ericsson’s desire to be a greener company. It is a pioneer in the line of GreenHeart products as it brings with it a number of eco-friendly features. Aside from being made of 50% recycled plastics, the Naite will also include a low-power battery charger, an electronic user guide (say goodbye to the paper-based manual), and loads of environment-friendly applications. Thanks to these efforts the CO2 footprint of the Naite is 15% smaller than that of other more conventional mobile devices such as the Sony Ericsson C902 Cybershot, for instance.

More than Just an Eco-Friendly Mobile

Sony-Ericsson-NaiteHowever, being an eco-friendly device doesn’t necessarily mean that design or functionality has to be compromised. The Naite is indeed testament to this fact. Sony Ericsson’s Marketing Head Josh Oxspring mentioned that “Naite is a phone that not only helps you to organise your life and work, it allows consumers to make an economical choice with the low-power charger and reduce their impact on the environment. Going green shouldn’t mean consumers have to sacrifice features or style so we’ve created a phone that is packed with impressive features such as high-speed 3G and Active desktop to help consumers manage their busy lives.”

With its one-touch button you can easily access a variety of functions such as contacts, the web, your calendar, or you messages. The high-speed browsing capabilities of the Naite combined with one-click Google access also means you can get online wherever and whenever you’d like.

Aside from having eco-friendly apps such as Ecomate and a Carbon Footprint calculator, the Naite will also work in both the 2G (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) and 3G networks (HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 1200). Expect this mobile to be released come Q3 of 2009 with an estimated launch price of around £80.

Samsung Pixon 12: The First 12 Megapixel Camera Phone

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009
Samsung-Pixon-12The mobile phone manufacturer Samsung Electronics has established its leadership in high megapixel camera phones market by presenting the Samsung Pixon12. It is one of the foremost 12 megapixel camera phone in the world.  The mobile handset is expected to hit the market from June end in the Europe and will be extended to other places by August.  This phone is an answer for users of mobile phone who want a stronger digital camera in their device. Samsung Pixon12 is expected to be packed with numerous functions related to digital photography, and will allow you to click, see and share photos very conveniently.

Samsung has been conducting continuing consumer research which has enabled them to develop this innovative camera phone that not only meets but exceeds the consumers’ expectations. Samsung Pixon12 is an excellent demonstration of camera phone with quick access to the camera, fast browsing, excellent speed of the shutter and a few other important features which users want to see in their phone cameras. Samsung has been busy after the Samsung Omnia to come with line-up, and have created the Samsung Jet and Samsung Pixon 12 on more practical lines.

It has been reviewed that both Samsung Jet and Pixon 12 have a very strong build quality, but the other operating features are just acceptable, though Jet has a 3D ‘cube’ user interface as a publicity stunt.  Most of the reviews are very impressed with the camera of Samsung Pixon 12 which has a reasonably high-quality auto-focus. You can get the best and numerous pictures in no time. It also has a committed camera Power Key that allows you quick one-touch contact with the functions of the camera. You can just aim and click the image when the camera is switched on, to capture images as quick as the sophisticated digital cameras of recent times. Sony Ericsson S312 Snapshot: Photo-Snapping for Mobile Lifestyles

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
Sony-Ericsson-S312-Snapshot-RedWith the recession in tow, people are turning more and more to budget mobile phones equipped with some of the features they love.
Sony Ericsson might not have the Holy Grail when it comes to cameras, but their Cybershot series has been a success and they’re giving the people a chance to experience the same quality optics in lower-priced versions of the mobile phones.

The S312 Snapshot: low-end but snazzy optics
We have to be honest here; the Sony Ericsson S312 Snapshot is indeed a low-end phone. If you were looking for a touchscreen UI, WLAN access and UMA functionality, look elsewhere.

S312-SnapshotThe Sony Ericsson S312 Snapshot is comparable to the Nokia 5030 Xpress Radio: not many features, but still lovable. Anyway, like low-budget Casio digital cameras, you pick just 1 best feature and with the Sony Ericsson S312 Snapshot, you get a good camera.

The cam’s not bad either; you get a 2.0 megapixel CMOS sensor and a bright LED flash. In addition, with our experience with SE flashes, you’re sure to take brilliant still photos even in pitch-dark lighting conditions.

Memory
Since the Sony Ericsson S312 Snapshot is a low-end phone, the device can only handle a low amount of extra storage. But it’s still a good choice, because earlier snappers from Sony Ericsson didn’t even have extra storage options. You were stuck with 12 megabytes of memory and a clumsy USB 1.0 wire for PC transfers. Moreover, the photos were grainy.

S312We’re seeing some phantoms of some bad choices SE made with their past handsets (the Sony Ericsson k750i only has a few megabytes in its internal storage, as well, as 64 megabytes in its free Memory Stick Duo) manifesting with this device. For one, the onboard storage is only 20 megabytes.

We know you’re unhappy, so better buy a Memory Stick Micro (M2) to expand your phone’s memory capacity. For the good news: standard talk time for the Sony Ericsson S312 is 7 hours, more than what the Hyundai MB 910 can handle (3 hours).

A Preview of the Sony Ericsson Aino

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
SE-AinoWith a total weight of 134 grams, you might think that the new Sony Ericsson Aino is quite a heavy phone. Although this may be true, this should also lead you to believe that its weight is only testament to the heaps of heavy features loaded in this excellent mobile phone. Don’t get too excited though as Sony Ericsson doesn’t intend to release this model until the fourth quarter of this year. Also prepare to shell out around £300 for this beauty.

Below are some of its best features that give it the potential to be one of the neatest mobiles of 2009.

Say Cheese

At 8.1 Megapixels, the Aino boasts a powerful camera that will rival the best in the business. Moreover, VGA video capture can also be done at a fine rate of 30 fps. You can store your pictures and videos on the mobile’s 55MB internal memory, but you can add up to 16GB of external memory if you need more space.

You can control the camera using the Aino’s touch functionality. The touch camera interface is similar to other Sony Ericsson models released in the past such as the Sony Ericsson G900 or the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1.

Stay Connected

Connecting to the internet has been made easy on the Aino through the use of Wi-Fi connectivity with DLNA. Aside from having the customary Wayfinder Navigator GPS navigation software, Google Maps 3.0 is also pre-installed in the Aino to ensure that you are able to keep track of where you are in the world.

Browse Away

The Aino also sports an updated version of the ever-popular NetFront 3.5 mobile internet browser. This allows for a smoother surfing experience because of the quicker rendering of web pages. The NetFront’s mouse pointer also makes it easier to navigate through pages and fortunately, it is easy to access the most important features on the toolbar—enter an address, mini-map, downloads, and favourties.

What’s New on the Apple iPhone 3G S?

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
Applie-iPhone-3GSThe Apple iPhone 3G S has been introduced and it should be available in the UK this month at a price of £274, £185 if you’re getting the 16GB version. The company states that the iPhone 3G S is the most powerful iPhone yet, with double the speed in performance, extended battery life and a comprehensive feature set.

The iPhone 3G S sports a 600MhZ processor coupled with a 256MB RAM that should make for quick and easy task accomplishment. Unlike the previous iPhone model, this version scores a lot of points when it comes to longevity. Battery life is extensive so that users can make the most of the innovative applications available on the iPhone 3G S.

Apple finally decided to outfit the mobile with video recording capabilities. It has an edit feature so that you don’t need a computer to start tidying up your clips. The 3MP camera affords users a host of advantages over the earlier version. You can tap to focus so that you can choose which area of an image the phone will focus on. The phone automatically adjusts settings for best quality shots. You can also take close up shots with the iPhone 3G S and the details and colors are rather vivid.

There are numerous other improvements such as Voice Control which lets you make a call or play a tune upon verbal request; Nike + iPod functionality, digital compass, accessibility features designed for the hearing and visually impaired, and so on.
Perhaps it is a minor feature but it is worth mentioning that the iPhone 3G S is fingerprint resistant as it is fitted with an oleophobic screen. Now all you have to do is to wipe off the smudges with a soft cloth.

The Palm Pre is a pretty decent device but Palm better watch out as the iPhone 3G S looks to be a strong contender for the top spot.
